Michael POAST

Michael Poast conducted the world premiere of his Color Music for Orchestra and was honored with an ASCAP Award. Poast is known nationally as visual artist and as a composer for his Color Music, that uses visual colors and shapes as an alternative musical notation system.While still a student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Poast was already questioning the connection between sound and color. He received a Masters of Fine Arts from the City University of New York and is currently Composer-in-Residence at the Players Theatre in Greenwich Village, NYC and Professor at St. John's University and Pratt Institiute. Poast has numerous credits to his public art and has also been honored with awards from the Lila Acheson Wallace Fund, Meet the Composer and The Gottlieb Foundation.
