Member Benefits & Application Procedure

Benefits:
Members' compositions are performed at various venue sites in the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, as well as in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Venue sites include high school, college, and library auditoriums. LICA has a list of excellent musicians who may be contacted and scheduled for performance.
Concerts are recorded by professional audio engineers and recordings are made available on CD for a modest copying charge.

An opportunity for organizing concerts by any individual member(s) is afforded and strongly encouraged by the organization. Funding for concerts is provided in part by LICA, and by art and music granting organizations. A fee is usually charged to the venue site of the concert, such as a library. Members are welcome to participate in the performance of their music as a soloist, or as part of an ensemble such as a trio, or quartet.

Networking opportunities are concomitant with attending LICA concerts, member meetings, and special events. Member composers are listed on the LICA website with biographical and contact information, and compositions are entered into our online catalog.

Application Procedure:
New membership application is done by mailing to Murray F Cohen, a request for membership by the applicant who is or had been a Long Island resident, or someone who has been connected with Long Island, such as a teacher, a professional performer, or a student attending a recognized Long Island establishment.

The applicant should send several written musical scores that are appropriate for performance in our concerts which are of the chamber music genre, solo instrument, vocal, etc. CDs, or tapes, if available should accompany the music. Emailed pdf files or mp3's may be substituted for mailed written scores and recordings. A brief bio with address and phone number must also be included. The material is then forwarded to two other members of the membership committee.

Two out of three committee member approvals is sufficient for membership qualification. However, the inclusion for membership will await to be made official at the ensuing LICA board meeting. Meetings are held at a minimum of twice per year. The board secretary will then send you a package of material pertaining to LICA with a request for dues.
