2012/06/03 – Fortieth Anniversary Concert of Long Island Composers Alliance

Info: In 1972, The Long Island Composers Alliance, formed by Marga Richter and Herbert Deutsch, held it’s first of hundreds of concerts presenting close to 2,000 new compositions by composers from Long Island for Long Island audiences. That program was held at the South Huntington Library. Although our concerts have now been held in many states and internationally, we proudly return to the South Huntington Library for our 40th Anniversary Concert. As a special honor to The American Chamber Ensemble, which is now in its 42nd year, the brilliant artists of ACE will be our primary performers. All of the music on this concert will be selected works by our founders, Herb Deutsch and Marga Richter. But a special honor will be given to the three winning student composers whose music will have been chosen after a performance on our May 25, Music By and For Students Concert,

Info: The 39th Annual concert featuring original compositions by students of Long Island ranging in age from 10 to 19 years old. This concert, one of the most popular events of LICA, has become the model for student composition concerts both state-wide and nationally. Herbert Deutsch, Concert Manager.

2012/02/12 – Multi-Cultural Salute to Black History Month: An Afternoon of World Premieres

Concert: Multi-Cultural Salute to Black History Month: An Afternoon of World Premieres – Jazz, Concert and Jazz-Influenced Concert Musics (Series Event #3) Musics by Nine LiCA members and guest composer Joao Luiz Rezende Lopes. (Works by Fourteen LICA member/composers are represented in this 4 event series.) This concert will feature performances by vocalists Tara Nova, Natalya Simone and TOMOKO, pianists Paul Hefner, Rob Schwimmer and Jay Anthony Gach, flutist Alice Jones, bassist Wilbur Bascomb, drummer Victor Jones, guitarist/vocalist Richard Boukas, The Brasil Guitar Duo (courtesy of Concert Artists Guild), and the South Nassau Unitarian Universalist Congregation African Drum Ensemble “The DrUUmatics.” Immediately following the concert there will be a themed exhibit featuring Living Black Artists, coinciding with a meet the musicians and artists reception. Info: Composers: Murray Cohen(mgr.), Herb Deutsch, Herbert Feldman, George Cork Maul, and Marga Richter. Newly composed music for oboe, cello , and piano will be featured. Herbert Deutsch has written a work for his new grandson, Everett, Marga Richter an oboe work entitled ‘Paean to the Grand Canyon’, and George cork Maul a work entitled ‘Long Ago’. Herbert Feldman and Murray Cohen also feature trios for oboe, cello, and piano.
The performers are musicians who are presently associated with the music department at SUNY Stonybrook. Terry Keevil is a well known oboist who has been principal oboe with The Bach Aria Group and has long been associated with LICA concerts. Agnes Kallay ,cellist, Is completing her doctoral studies with Colin Carr. She has bee associated with noted musicians at Tanglewood such as Emanuel Ax, Michael Tilson Thomas, and John Williams. Andrea Lodge was winner of the Newfland Symphony Young Artists Competition. She is presently working with Gilb ert Kalish at Stonybrook.
