Concert: Multi-Cultural Salute to Black History, African-American Music Appreciation Month Jazz musics in honor of the memory of Hale Smith, Distinguished African-American composer and long-time Long Island Composers Alliance (LICA) member, and music by living LICA members written specifically for Tara Nova, internationally acclaimed vocalist. Performances by the Paul Hefner Jazz Ensemble featuring Cecilia Tenconi – Flute/Saxophones, Wilbur Bascomb – Bass, and Victor Jones – Drums, plus Grammy-Award winner, Pianist Rob Schwimmer and special guest artist, Brasilian Composer/Guitarist Joao Luiz!
Tickets: $10 ,students $5. Tickets at the door on event day, cash only, please.

Concert: LICA 41st Anniversary Concert

Info: In 1972, The Long Island Composers Alliance, formed by Marga Richter and Herbert Deutsch, held it’s first of hundreds of concerts presenting close to 2,000 new compositions by composers from Long Island for Long Island audiences. That program was held at the South Huntington Library. Although our concerts have now been held in many states and internationally, we proudly return to the South Huntington Library for our 41st Anniversary Concert. As a special honor to The American Chamber Ensemble, which is now in its 43nd year, the brilliant artists of ACE will be our primary performers. All of the music on this concert will be selected works by our founders, Herb Deutsch and Marga Richter. But a special honor will be given to the three winning student composers whose music will have been chosen after a performance on our May 25, Music By and For Students Concert,

Concert: LICA Music By and For Students

Info: Works to be performed are selected by composer members of L.I.C.A. In addition to the performance, there will be prizes for outstanding compositions. A $50 CASH AWARD will be presented to the student composers in three age categories. These categories will be approximately (1) a composer 11 or under, (2) a composer between 12 and 14, and (3) a composer above 15. The works will be judged by the L.I.C.A. Program Committee and the most outstanding AWARD WINNERS WILL ALSO PERFORM THEIR WORKS AT THE LONG ISLAND COMPOSERS ALLIANCE PROFESSIONAL ANNIVERSARY CONCERT ON JUNE 9, 2013.

These awards are given in memory of Arline Diamond, whose compositions and students had been a part of music on Long Island for many years and whose work with the Long Island Composers Alliance and many other musical organizations was so vital.
